Program Description
Illinois Anthropology faculty Dr. Lisa J. Lucero is the Principal Investigator for the Valley of Peace Archaeology (VOPA) project. This summer the VOPA project is organizing a field program from May 15 - June 25, 2024, under the auspices of the Institute of Archaeology, National Institute of Culture and History, Government of Belize at Cara Blanca, central Belize; and with permission from the landowners The Nature Conservancy and SPLC. This archaeological field school is ANTH 454/455 and will be Exploring Ancestral Maya Neighborhoods
Applications are due March 15, 2024 with applicants being notified March 20, 2024. Non-majors welcome and there are no prerequisites required.
