Graduate Student Applications:

We are currently seeking graduate students in the Department who would like to participate in the LEAD mentoring program.

For the academic year 2023-2024, the LEAD mentoring program will consist of (1) mentoring groups of graduate and undergraduate students and (2) larger meetings, events, and workshops. Mentoring group sizes will be determined by the number of participants; these will be made up of at least one undergraduate student and one graduate student but will typically be larger, pairing one or more graduate students with two or more undergraduate students. Mentoring groups will meet every other week at a date/time to be determined by group members.

Graduate student responsibilities will include a.) helping to facilitate and actively participate in mentoring groups, and b.) attending skill based workshops on mentoring offered through the grad college (leading to a Graduate College Mentoring Certificate), and 3) potential for leading Critical Skills Clinics for LEAD scholars (e.g., studying strategies, writing clinics, finding research and internship opportunities on campus). LEAD mentors (graduate students) would be expected to spend approximately 1-3 hours per week in this role.

The LEAD program is intended as a year-long program. Students will apply in the fall and continue their participation through the spring semester, and events will be planned for the entire academic year.

Graduate students will work under the guidance of Petra Jelinek and Kate Bishop.

Applications are due Friday, October 20, 2023.

Questions about applying can be sent to Petra Jelinek jelinek@illinois.edu or Kate Bishop kjbishop@illinois.edu
