Assistant Professor LaKisha T. David has collaborated with Illinois State Representative Carol Ammons on a house resolution to support people of African descent learn more about their ancestral family history through DNA testing. On February 7, 2024, the resolution received a 7-to-4 vote in committee. Ammons said she expects the bill could be voted on in the House of Representatives in the next few weeks, and that the program could start as soon as summer 2024.
