Biography
I hail from Virginia. I received my B.A. at Centre College in Kentucky and my M.A. at the University of Louisville before coming to UIUC to pursue my doctorate. Doesn't "Dr. Doubles" have such a nice ring to it?
Research Interests
My research centers the household perspective in archaeological discussions of migration and movement during the Late Woodland (AD 400 - 1650) and the Mississippian (AD 1050-1650) periods in the American Midwest and Southeast. I specialize in ceramic analysis, radiocarbon and Bayesian modeling, Social Network Analysis, and Foodways/Cuisine studies to address the social networks and changes taking place within the households of the past. My research is inspired by my own families history, as Greek Orthodox migrants from Istanbul, and the ways that our cuisine and foodway traditions have changed that I have personally observed in practice and through stories. The household and communities they are formed in are central to this work and my research explores how people in the past were embodying changes and resistances in their day-to-day lives via practices and material culture.
