Dr Michelle Johnson writes about Professor and Mentor Alma Gottlieb

Illinois PhD alumnus, Michelle Johnson, writes in the News-Gazette about her graduate experience with her mentor, Professor Emeritus Alma Gottlieb.

Johnson, who is currently an associate professor at Bucknell University, chose to study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign after reading Professor Gottlieb's co-edited book, 'Black Magic.' 

Appreciation and gratitude met her admiration during her studies in the Department of Anthropology. Professor Gottlieb's contribution to her writing, research, but also her professional management skills has been wide and lasting. 

Professor Johnson still keeps in contact with the Department of Anthropology and Professor Gottlieb. 

Besides her research and graduate teaching, Professor Gottlieb was also a great supporter of undergraduate programming and student support.  She was the first Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUGS) and lobbied for the need to hire a full time Academic Advisor in anthropology
