Anthropology and Linguistics Assistant Professor Krystal A Smalls is the recipient of this year's faculty prize for Research in the Humanities by the Illinois HRI. Professor Smalls' Chapter 12 award winning contribution to The Oxford Handbook of Language and Race (New York: Oxford University Press, 2020) was titled Race, Signs, and the Body: Toward a Theory of Racial Semiotics.” It was nominated by Professor Jenny Davis.
