Major congratulations to SEAM doctoral student Zoe Doubles for winning the Illinois Archaeological Survey's Jeanette E. Stephens Student Paper Award! The award is presented annually to the best paper on a topic concerning Illinois archaeology from current or recent students.
Zoe's paper, "Habitation and Interaction at the Late Woodland German Site (11C377) in the Lower Illinois River Valley," examines how peoples’ lives during the onset of Mississippian influence were transformed through exposure to new peoples and new ideas through the analysis of ceramics, faunal remains, and household architecture.
Keep a lookout for her paper in an upcoming issue of Illinois Archaeology!
