Dr. Katherine Amato, Northwestern University, combines primatological, physiological, and microbiome data to address questions about how the microbiome functions and interacts with different hosts and environments to affect fitness and health. She has also developed and assessed methods for obtaining data from non-invasive samples from wild primates.

AABA Mid-Career Research Award was established in 2025 to recognize significant research accomplishments advancing the field of Biological Anthropology by mid-career individuals. Nominations should highlight the innovative and/or transformative work of the nominee, with specific publications or findings referenced. Nominees should ideally have a commitment to inclusive and open data sharing practices.
