Join us in congratulating Lysette Valdez, our Anthropology student, who has been selected to deliver a speech at the 2026 Sociology, Anthropology, and Interdisciplinary Studies convocation! Her speech, titled “Échale Ganas” (“Give it your all”), is such a meaningful and inspiring theme, and this recognition is truly well deserved. We’re so proud to have her represent our program on this special occasion.

Lysette says about her speech: "My speech, “Échale Ganas” (“Give it your all”), is centered on a phrase that I heard throughout my college journey that highlights not only the perseverance and effort it took to get through these past years but also to give gratitude to my family and culture. Through this speech I hope to remind graduates that we put the effort throughout our college career for ourselves and those important to us and to continue to put this effort in wherever life takes us!"

Lysette is pursuing a concentration in Human Evolutionary Biology with a minor in Integrative Biology, and she continues to impress us with her dedication and accomplishments. Congratulations again, Lysette—we’re cheering you on!
